LG CNS celebrates its winning Malaysian Transit System Export Opportunity with Its Own Independent Solution 2016-02-04

- Winning Malaysia's 『City MRT feeder bus system』 project -

■ New project related to MRT, Malaysia's largest transportation project ever
■ Bested other global IT companies, proving Korea's excellence in the local transportation IT solution
■ Hopes to expand business beyond Southeast Asia to Latin America and Europe with transportation IT demand

LG CNS, Korea's leading smart transportation service provider and IT company, scored another export victory overseas.

The company announced on Thursday (Feb. 4) its new project in Malaysia, the MRT feeder bus system project.

This project is linked to the city railway construction, the largest transportation project under construction in Malaysian history, linking 31 MRT stations with residential areas in Kuala Lumpur city to optimize the traffic flow by applying Smart Technology to the branch bus. The feeder bus complements the urban rapid buses covering longer distances and offers mobility within smaller areas.

The entire project is valued at 12 billion KRW and is expected to be completed in July 2017.

LG CNS has become a leader in Malaysia's transportation projects since it was selected as the operator of the KRW 140 billion communication system of Malaysia's MRT Line 1 in 2012.

The Malaysian government plans to spend, using government funds, a total of more than 30 trillion KRW on this year's MRT Line 2 project as well as Line 3 in the future.

Recently, the company was able to win a new project again thanks to its own independent transportation solution, which outshone those of major transportation IT competitors in Spain, Japan, and Germany; thus proving Korea's excellence in transportation IT.

This time, LG CNS recommended its Fleet Management System (F MS) solution, which streamlines bus operation by transmitting in real time the bus location and driving speed information to the central control center via wireless communication network using GPS receivers, vehicle units and communication modems installed in the buses so that the information collected is processed.

The Auto Fare Collection (AFC) solution is a comprehensive fare-charging system for bus, subway and MRT.

According to Vice President Lee Eung-jun, LG CNS Transportation Project Director, LG CNS has been successfully serving Malaysia with its participation in Kuala Lumpur's BTS (Bus Ticketing System) in 2011, PSD (Platform Screen Door) system, and MRT communication system. "After we succeed in the current MRT feeder bus system project, we will be expanding our business in Latin America, Europe, and Middle East," he added.

The company provides total services in all areas of public transit, including MRT, railways, airports, and electric vehicles, based on its technical excellence in smart transportation.

Already recognized for its successes in large-scale projects including Seoul's transportation card system, high-speed railway integration system, and electric vehicle infrastructure construction and operation, the company is winning acclaim for its technical excellence in Bogota and Pasto in Colombia, Athens in Greece, Wellington in New Zealand, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.(The end)

This MRT construction project is the largest transportation project in Malaysia's history and one of the components of the Malaysian government's "Economic Innovation Program" announced in 2010 with the goal of growing into a high-income country. Currently, construction of Kuala Lumpur city's MRT Line 1 (spanning 51 km and 31 stations) is underway. By 2017, LG CNS will have completed construction of the wireless railway system, station communication, CCTV, broadcasting, control, and security facilities within this area.

While LG CNS is working on the communication system, Siemens of Germany, Bombardier of Canada, Meidensha of Japan, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan, among others, are currently working on the MRT car supply, signal system, electric equipment, and railroad equipment, respectively. LG CNS is the only Korean company that is participating in this project.
